Spells, Levels 61 - 80 (where to acquire)

Postby Henora on 04 Feb 2006 08:07

Note: Updates for SOF underway. -Sam

For our 61+ level spells, there are several distinct methods of acquiring these spells. I've recently been chatting with a friend of mine that is returning after leaving at the very beginning of POP. He was level 60 and is now trying to come back and catch up with spells, etc (/wave Sabiniz). I had to go through this after returning from a small break as well, so I thought I would throw up a post on it.

Here is the breakdown of spells by level and "era" I will explain below the methods for spell turn-ins in each era.

Forgive me for not linking each spell, there's too many and I am too lazy. If you want to know what the spells do, <a href="http://lucy.allakhazam.com/">there's a great database of spells called Lucy</a>. Go there and type in the name, or <a href="http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spelllist.html?classes=SHM&source=Live">click the shaman link for a list</a>.

Secrets of Faydwer
Each of these spells has three versions, and there are two distinct distribution methods. The first method (D/V) is for rank one versions to drop in group content, rank two versions purchased with platinum from vendors who require certain faction, and rank three...? The second method (V/D) is for rank one versions to be purchased from vendors for platinum, rank two to drop in group content, and rank three...? The dropped versions can be traded/vended.

Ancestral Intervention
Fenier, with some edits by Samanna, wrote:Ancestral Intervention (Shaman, 78)
Survival of the Fittest (Druid, 78)

This spell is a new spell given to Druids and Shaman. Both spells function in the same manner, and I am going to try to cover everything here.

Design concept: During beta it became apparent that the gap between Clerics and the other two priests in terms of Emergency heals was to large. These spells are an attempt to lower the gap by giving us a multiple person (group) healing tool for use in situations similar to that a Cleric may click their Epic Shield or use Divine Arbitration in. Because of this, certain limitations were implemented to the spell to prevent it from replacing our normal group heal lines.

How it works: The spell is a group emergency tool. I don't use the word heal, because the spell has no base heal value (don't panic, I will explain). How the spell works is there a preset heal value for different health levels (determined by rank), the spell heals you for the correct value as determined by the health triggers. Simply - the spell heals those hurt more - for more. This makes the spell stronger in certain cases then Divine Arb due to the fact it restores lost hitpoints, rather then simply shifting them around between the group members.

Now, how the health triggers work: The spell will not heal anyone over 65% health - this is by design and to prevent the tool from developing uses other then the intended one. So, using rank 1 values:
    Between 55 and 65% = 1285
    Between 45 and 55% = 2570
    Between 35 and 45% = 3854
    Between 25 and 35% = 5139
    Below 25% = 6424
Each of these can be modified by Focii and AA per cast. Now, as may be expected this is cause for concern about healing aggro. I had a developer check with server side scripting and the spell does not increase aggro upon application. Rank 1 Values:
    Cast time: 1 Second
    Recast time: 3 Minutes
    Range: 200
Mana Cost: 1225 (Focusable by SCM, Mana Pres, etc)
    Healing amount: see above.
AA improvements:The second cause for concern amongst raiders would likely be the cast time and recast time. Both of these issues can be addressed if a player chooses via the AA system. Nodyin created an AA line for both Druid and Shaman similar to that of Unfailing Divinity for Divine Intervention. The AA line (Fortified Survival) increases the power of this one spell (all ranks) and has 3 ranks of 3 AA each.
Rank 1 Drops the Cast time to .9 seconds and 2.5 minutes recast
Rank 2 Drops the Cast time to .7 seconds and 2.0 minutes recast
Rank 3 Drops the Cast time to .5 seconds and 1.5 minutes for recast timer.

Depths of Darkhollow Era Spells
Spells from the DOD era are obtained by completing a story arc of missions. These missions are well detailed on this forum. After you complete the mission arc, visit <a href="http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=18991">Brother Hidden Path</a> in Undershore (loc; -921, 751, 88) and hail him to receive your spell.

    69 - DOD - Breath of Antraygus - <a href="http://crucible.samanna.net/viewtopic.php?t=791">**Level 69 Mission Arc Info**</a>
    68 - DOD - Lingering Sloth - <a href="http://crucible.samanna.net/viewtopic.php?t=758">**Level 68 Mission Arc Info**</a>

Dragons of Norrath Era Spells
Spells from the DON era are obtained in two ways. Spirit of the Leopard (and the lower level version) can be purchased from the DON Merchants in Lavastorm, using Radiant or Ebon Crystals. Radiant or Ebon Crysals are earned by completing missions given in the Dark Reign or Norrath Keepers camps in Lavastorm or they can be purchased in the Bazaar. Spirit of the Panther is an upgrade to Spirit of the Leopard that is given when you complete the progression tasks through the Emoush raid. <a href="http://crucible.samanna.net/viewtopic.php?t=25">**Information on DON Progression is here.**</a> It is not necessary to own the Spirit of the Leopard to receive Spirit of the Panther when completing the required DON progression.

69 - DON - Spirit of the Panther
61 - DON - Spirit of the Leopard
57 - DON - Spirit of the Jaguar (added after DON)
50 - DON - Spirit of the Puma (added after DON)

Omens of War Era Spells
Spells from the OOW era are obtained by turning in special runes. There are 2 general types of these runes, Muramite Runes (which drop in Omens zones) and Shadowspine Runes (which drop in Depths of Darkhollow zones). <a href="http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zone.html?mode=bycont">**Please refer to this zone listing by Era on Allakhazam.com.**</a> In addition to the 2 types of runes, there are several grades (Minor, Lesser, "regular", Greater and Glowing).

Muramite Runes are handed in to <a href="http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=16113">Karsor the Mad</a> in Dranik's Scar (loc; -1655,-32.00). Shadowspine Runes are turned into <a href="http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=18991">Brother Hidden Path</a> in Undershore (loc; -921, 751, 88). Turning them in results in a set sequence of spells. The spells you receive are no-drop, so you cannot sell them or trade them to others. After you have received all your spells in each sequence he will simply return your rune if you attempt to give him more. You can turn in any combination of Muramite or Shadowspine runes to their respective turn-in NPCs and they will give you the next spell in the sequence that you need. Minor, Lesser and "regular" runes are tradable and can be purchased in the bazaar. Greater, Glowing and Ancient runes are available only as drops, Ancient runes are only available via raid targets.

ADAPTED FROM: http://crucible.samanna.net/viewtopic.php?t=49

Gates of Discord Era Spells
GOD spells are also the result of turning in runes and can also be created via the Research tradeskill. There are 4 different types of runes; Taelosian Geomancy Stone Eril, Taelosian Geomancy Stone Jelki and Taelosian Geomancy Stone Yiktu for normal spells, which drop off of named mobs in the GOD zones (click below for drop info) and Chaos Runes for the Ancient spell which come off raid nameds in deeper GOD zones. Turn these runes into Reyfin Malakwa in the Abysmal Sea, on the big ship at +225, +290, +100. Runes that are turned in to Reyfin result in NO TRADE versions of the spells, spells that are created via the research tradeskill are tradeable and can be found in the bazaar.

Planes of Power Era Spells
POP era spells are available via a parchment turn-in system. There are 3 items you can turn in for a chance at a spell. These items are Ethereal Parchments (61 and 62 spells), Spectral Parchments (63 and 64 spells) and Glyphed Rune Words (65 spells).

The shaman spell turn in NPC can be found in the Library of the Plane of Knowledge. He's an evil otter named Mystic Aboman and he hates shamans and never gives them the spell they want. Unlike the systems described above, the POP spell system gives you a random spell in the range of spells of the item you handed in. For example, if you turn in 15 Spectral Parchments, you may receive 14 copies of Petrifying Earth and one copy of Breath of Ultor, or any other combination of those spells listed below under Spectral Parchments. Also unlike the turn-in systems in other expansions, spells from the Planes of Power expansion are all tradeable. So you can sell or trade your extra copies.

In addition to the turn-in system, many spells are now available as the product of the Research tradeskill. <a href="http://www.eqtraders.com">You can look up the recipes for all the Planes of Power spells on EQtraders.</a>

The exceptions on these lists are the Imbue spells. Imbue spells are a no-fail tradeskill combine and not a reward for turning in a parchment. <a href="http://www.eqtraders.com">You can look up those recipes on EQtraders</a>.

Very nice post Hen, thank you. Two possible (I'm not 100% sure) errors are that as far as I can recall, Swift Like the Wind is a vendor spell, not Planes of Power (Enchanters can mem it at level 47). Petrifying Earth (64) is an Ethereal parchment as Necromancer's receive it at 62.

I made myself something similiar for level 60 to 65 spells mainly to help me work out which spells to buy and which to skip (it was too expensive to buy them all, so I checked out which would be replaced in a few levels, and which were 'top of the line'). Not completed, but if anyone is in the same boat it might be worth a glance.

LDON era spells are available for purchase using points from the LDON merchants in their camps in Everfrost, Butcherblock, North Ro, South Ro and East Commonlands. To purchase the Bane spell, you will need to complete LDON missions in the Rujarkian theme, which are given in East Commonlands (near Shady Swashbuckler). Points are non-transferrable and the spells are no-trade.

64 - LDON - Bane - Rujark setting (East Commonlands outpost), 640 points
54 - LDON - Anathema - Mistmoore Caverns setting (Butcherblock outpost), 410 points
54 - LDON - Remove Greater Curse - Takish-Hiz setting (Northern Desert of Ro outpost), 800 points (can also be acquired as a drop from Rhag`Zhezum, Rhag`Mozdezh, Arch Lich Rhag`Zadune)
34 - LDON - Pack Shrew - Mistmoore Caverns setting (Butcherblock outpost), 36 points
29 - LDON - Spirit of the Shrew - Deepest Guk setting (Southern Desert of Ro outpost), 24 points

Expanded to include more detailed acquisition info, also added other spells with use to high level shaman, despite the low level of the spell.

thanks, I'll update some parts of my post.

Katt - I thought I would mention that Hungry Plague is not really an upgrade to Cloud of Grummus. While it is still a diseased based slow, it is a contagious "ae" slow that bounces from mob to mob.

It is difficult to use successfully because if there are any mobs in the area that have been slowed with turgurs (or BoD, BoN, an enchanter slow, a beastlord slow, etc), or that are unslowable you will get very bad agro. This is due to the constant attempts to slow the mobs that are unslowable or have been slowed with a higher percentage slow. It also has a very long refresh time, between when you can mem and when you can cast or recast. Grummus is still used for the rare times we need to disease slow. So it's really worth picking it up.
